Pearl likes Dimmesdale because he's the only man that shows affection towards her. Everyone else acts as if she's the Devils child because they aren't sure of who her father is, but Dimmesdale knows the truth.

Because he didn't want the whole true to come out about his identity.

He really didn't expect her to stay with him, but he most likely hoped she would. I'm sure he wanted to start a family at some point. I don't however feel like if they would have gotten married after people already knew about Hester's sin, if they would have accepted them. He most likely would have gotten punished for still loving a sinful woman

I think Hester was just lying to Pearl to get Pearl to stop asking questions about the scarlet letter. I don't think she ever visited the black man, she is just using it as her story

The heavy iron jail door is used as a metaphor for puritan strictness and law, and the rose bush is a metaphor for surprising forgiveness, but really have we seen any forgiveness? Hesters life has in fact gotten worse, so why include the roses at all?
It's foreshadowing, in the beginning of the chapter it talks about the iron door, in the end the rosebush. The forgiveness will come in the end of the book.
